| Research and training |
Research and development are among DBMC's most
important activities. Every year the organisation spends around on third
of its funds in these areas. The purpose is to acquire knowledge that can be
put into practice by farmers, slaughterhouses and meat processors -
ensuring that Denmark maintains its leading edge in the international pork
business.Danish Pig Production is one of the driving forces in this development. The board is responsible for research and development in primary production and works together with both Danish and overseas research institutes. The main goals are to increase efficiency and output of pig producers and acquire new knowledge in areas such as breeding, feeding, housing systems, animal welfare and the environment.
The other driving force is the Danish Meat Research Institute, internationally renowned for its results. Owned and financed by the meat industry, its research and development programme covers almost all areas of meat production, from pig transport and slaughtering technology, to processing and refrigeration methods, quality management and environmental protection. Recent work has focused on the automation of slaughtering, cutting and boning processes. The Meat Research Institute works with the two slaughterhouse companies, universities and other research establishments all over the world and carries out consultancy and advisory services at home and abroad.
The Danish Meat Trade College serves the entire Danish food manufacturing and catering industry. It has achieved international acclaim by offering some of the most comprehensive training courses available in the food industry.
